Would it have occurred to you that somebody selling a MINI would need different skills to someone selling a BMW? BMW suspected this when preparing to launch the MINI, and sought the advice of one of our clients, Psychological Consultancy Ltd. The marketing approach was to reflect the character of the new MINI, and BMW wanted the personality of its sales force to continue this theme.

Valued advice

Psychological Consultancy considered the different kinds of ‘sales potential’ and established that the person best suited to selling the MINI would be skilled at selling a ‘lifestyle product’. This person would enjoy helping to choose the vehicle’s colour and the extras needed to personalise it for the new owner.

This contrasted with the more sober and learned profile BMW normally looked for in its sales-force. The BMW customer was usually more interested in technical quality, innovation and engine size than colour and extras.

Psychological Consultancy Ltd specialises in people assessments, whether selecting people to fill specific roles, developing people, planning for their career future or helping them to improve performance.

Like Creaseys, they are based in Tunbridge Wells and chief executive Emma Roberts is delighted that, in addition to being a valued client, they have been able to help with Creaseys’ own graduate recruitment strategy and selection of qualified professionals. In turn, Psychological Consultancy director Gillian Hyde said she and director, Geoff Trickey, value the advice they receive from Creaseys at year-end and whenever a query arises. Gillian said:

“I feel Creaseys are very approachable and when we do have a query, it is nice to have them just down the road."
